CIRCUITS (JSSC) is based upon a selection of papers that
were presented at the 2006 IEEE International Solid-State Cir-
cuits Conference (ISSCC) in February, 2006. The theme of the
2006 ISSCC was “Multimedia for a Mobile World”, and this
theme was reflected in many of the conference papers. For this
special JSSC issue, the Guest Editors have selected the leading-
