There is an increasing need for fully integrated power converters to reduce form factor in mobile devices and provide high-density point-of-load power delivery in performance computing applications [1]. While the number of microprocessor cores on a single die continues to increase, power delivery subsystems have not scaled as favorably, and there remain significant challenges to providing complex multi-core regulation with high efficiency, fast dynamic response, and at low cost. Switched-capacitor (SC) converters have emerged as a prime candidate for high-power-density and high-conversion-ratio power delivery due to favorable tradeoffs between device utilization and conversion ratio, and the inherently higher energy density of capacitors as compared to inductors in many voltage and current ranges [1-3].
