NXP Semiconductors, Chandler, AZ 1 Autonomous-driving features have increased the load power demand of processors, which in turn, have resulted in the development of a 48V bus in electric vehicles. The resulting high and wide input-voltage range provides an opportunity for hybrid switchedcapacitor (SC) converters, which enable efficient high-conversion-ratio high-density power delivery. Any failure in the power delivery to computers and control systems in the context of autonomous driving is catastrophic, which motivates the need for a faulttolerant (FT) converter to satisfy the functional safety requirements.
