As illustrated in Fig. 18.4.4, the angular resolution of the optical setup depends on two properties: the pixel-beam-separation (PBS) angle φPBS and the half-power beamwidth (HPBW) θHPWB. For the optical setup in Fig. 18.4.1, used for all imaging experiments in this work, φPBS can be calculated from the pixel pitch of 200µm and the silicon lens’ extension length of 4.4mm (including die thickness) and is equal to 2.6°. The angular field-of-view (FoV), which is the separation between the outermost beams, is 11°. The HPBW, on the other hand, is dependent on the directivity. Measurements using both the 12mm and the 20mm lenses, combined with the 12mm lens’ simulated directivity of 22.5dB, result in an estimated directivity of 36.1dB for the 20mm lens, which corresponds to an HPBW of 2.8°. With this optical setup, the object will thus be only slightly oversampled, and the effective angular resolution is 2.8°.
