Abstract This paper presents a 100A 93.4%-peak-efficiency LLC resonant converter with an embedded primary-current-extracted regulator. The proposed regulator powers the gate drivers of the LLC converter, eliminating the need for an external auxiliary buck converter or additional auxiliary windings. Fabricated in a 0.18μm BCD process, the proposed regulator occupies a die are of 8.3mm2 and achieves a 60V-to-2V conversion at 1MHz with a peak efficiency of 93.4%. LLC resonant converters are widely used for 48V-to-~1V xPU power delivery because primary-side zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and secondary-side zero-current switching (ZCS) enable high efficiency and compact magnetics. To meet the hundred-amperes load, multiple paralleled discrete GaN/Si power devices are employed, whose gate drivers require a dedicated low-voltage rail (e.g., 5V).
