Hirofumi Sumi, Hiroshi Hayashi, Masahiro Igarashi, Kei Ito, Hidetoshi Nagano, Masatoshi Imai, Naosuke Asari Sony, Tokyo, Japan The introduction of high-resolution CMOS image sensors [1] has encouraged the development of various applications to handle high frame rates, high resolution, and multiple images processed by software. Complicated image processing algorithms used in recent DSCs and camcorders, which make use of adaptive image processing to deal with the characteristics of scenes and objects, require extensive computational power, as well as low power consumption and increased flexibility. FIESTA is developed to adapt to these markets. FIESTA enables full HD 1080p (1920×1080) digital image processing, referred to herein as the BM algorithm, at 60fps in real time. The operation of HD 1080p processing is fully-programmed in 256 Processing Elements (PEs) and four Stream Control Units (SCUs).
