are the main challenges for robust communication. Reflection in transmission line (T-line) can be reduced by proper Tline design. But ISI stems from LPF characteristics of the actual Tline and becomes severe as either the data rate or the length of the T-line increases. Hence, ISI compensation is critical in over 6Gb/s (166ps bit-time) data communication using PCB or backplane. Receiver equalizer (RxEQ) is necessary for compensation of ISI. Selfoptimization of RxEQ is also the key technology. For example, in case of multi-lane data communication, the trace length of each T-line or cable may differ from lane to lane.
