1.0 Introduction Moore’s Law will continue to hold throughout the decade, allowing us to double transistor integration capacity while reducing power, thus providing an abundance of transistors needed to realize novel architectures for future platforms. These platforms will enable a more personalized user experience that delivers always–on and always–connected systems. This world of pervasive computing consists of a combination of intelligent systems from the smallest handheld device to the most powerful server. In the next decade, client and handheld systems will have the computing capacity of teraflop systems of today. The insatiable demand for high–performance computing, both in devices and data center infrastructure, is driving the industry to exascale computing. Assuming exascale systems are built using today’s system building blocks, it is predicted that they would consume power on the order of giga watts. Thus,
