1.0 Introduction If the world continues to consume electric power following current policy, the consumption of power will double by 2035 [1], and by 2030 it is forecast that the human race will need the CO2-absorption capacity and natural resources of two earths [2]. As we move forward, the question of how we can achieve sustainable development within the earth’s limited resources is a major issue for society. In response to this challenge, electronics companies have ramped up development of energy-efficient products and solutions. Meanwhile, the population continues to age, particularly in developed countries, with the percentage of the population 60 years or older set to reach 20% in developed countries, and 15% worldwide, by 2025 [3].
