Abstract This paper presents a TCAM design that includes a bank-less small-grain TCAM-macro compiler, a configurable soft-macro generator, selective macro-wise pipelined search techniques, and a split data-bus architecture for ECC. The proposed TCAM achieves 0.167fJ/b search energy and 5.27Mb/mm2 density with a 512-entry and 256b search key configuration in a 3nm bulk Fin-FET process technology for automotive network applications. TCAM is widely used in various networking devices, and recent technological advances such as the deployment of 5G networks and the rise of cloud and edge computing - have led to a dramatic increase in network traffic, necessitating larger-capacity TCAMs. TCAMs are required to support search key widths of up to 256b and entry depths of up to 4096
