Abstract This paper presents a fully reconfigurable HDR intensity/event hybrid SPAD sensor. The fully reconfigurable scheme enables both pixel types to be freely blended and operated simultaneously. A time-coded dual exposure encodes saturation time to provide an adaptive secondary exposure, achieving >134dB DR in both modes while reducing quantization error of the time code. Event detection with pixel-wise shot-noise thresholding keeps uniform event noise <0.46% across all illumination conditions. Recently, hybrid image sensors that combine event-based vision sensors (EVSs) with conventional CMOS image sensors (CISs) have garnered significant attention for various applications, including consumer electronics, machine vision, and robotics, as they can detect motion events and intensity information of fast-moving objects [1-3].
